![]() |
Mt. Manghilaw is the coolest place in Danao City.
Long time ago, Mt. Manghilaw is not yet known. There were American Missionaries and Priests came to give blessings to the mountain. It was an active volcano. They believe that if they give blessings to it, this volcano will not explode. But there was a person who had a dream that this volcano will explode sooner or later if they will not put a cross above it. After a week, they brought the cross to the mountain.
Today, devotees swamp to this peak every holy week, especially from Holy Thursday to Good Friday for a "panata". They believe that this cross will grant their wishes. One time, there were people climb there. a person named Jose Roble, together with his relatives, had sacrificed walking 51 km.(from Danao city-Mt. Manghilaw). When they reach their destination, they prayed the holy rosary.
They felt thirsty. When they come to realized that they forget to bring water, they asked for help through prayers until such, the water came out from the lower part of the cross. It's a miracle! The said miracle had been spread to the people. Through them, the mountain was started to be known. Some students went there when they are about to take their board examination and when they passed, they will go back there and will give thanks to the holy cross. Some will gave donations like money &. that money will be used for the development of the of the holy cross.
There are also caves in the lower part of the holy cross. Some people went there to sleep. They cooked there food inside the cave.
Mt. Manghilaw is now considered as one of the tourists spot in Danao City. This coming Holy Week, thousandths of people will be going there.People other than Danaoanons go there through hiking only. Quite far but fulfilling.
